Where to Sell Your Campervan Online in the UK: A Personal Guide From a Fellow Van Owner

I still remember the first time I saw our campervan parked in the driveway. It was a crisp March morning, and my dad and I had just driven down from Cheshire to pick it up from a lovely couple in Coalville. She was a 1996— black Mazda Bongo, with a custom interior and a pop-top roof. The previous owner handed over the keys with a bit of sadness in his eyes. “Look after her,” he said. And we did — for two beautiful years.

From Snowdonia to the Cornish coast, we explored every inch of the UK. But eventually, life moved on. A busy life and changing work commitments meant we weren’t getting out as much. So, with a heavy heart, I knew it was time to let her go. The big question was: where do you sell a campervan in the UK these days?

If you’re reading this, you’re probably in the same boat (or van). Maybe you’re upgrading. Maybe you’re switching back to car camping. Maybe it’s just time. Whatever the reason, this post is for you — from one campervan owner to another.

The Problem With Selling a Campervan Online

Selling a campervan isn’t the same as flogging your old washing machine on Facebook Marketplace. Campervans are a major purchase, and the people who buy them usually have a checklist, a budget, and a dream in their heads. That’s why choosing the right platform is crucial.

Over the last few years, being a campervan converter myself, I’ve tested all the main sites and marketplaces to see what works — and what doesn’t. Here’s what I found.

1. eBay Motors

Pros:

  • Huge audience

  • Auction or fixed price

  • Lots of campervan enthusiasts browse regularly

Cons:

  • High seller fees

  • Not everyone is serious — lots of tyre kickers

  • Time-consuming to set up and manage listings

I listed my van here for 10 days. Got plenty of messages, but many of them were from people asking if I’d take half the asking price or swap for a quad bike. One bloke from Kent was genuinely interested — until he ghosted me on collection day. Not great.  I have yet to get an offer near my asking price on this platform.

2. Gumtree

Pros:

  • Free to list

  • Local buyers

  • Simple interface

Cons:

  • Scams and fake buyers

  • Lowball offers

  • Limited audience for high-ticket items

Gumtree is a bit of a wild west. While I did get one proper viewing from a couple in Leeds, most of the responses were time-wasters. One guy wanted to take it for a “test weekend” with no deposit. I kid you not.  I have had some success a couple of years back with Gumtree but recently ive had little luck.

3. Facebook Marketplace

Pros:

  • Free

  • Super easy to list

  • Fast replies

Cons:

  • General audience — not campervan-specific

  • No buyer screening

  • Can get overwhelmed with messages

Facebook was interesting. I had lots of hits almost instantly — but again, very few serious buyers. I also got a message from someone offering me £1,000 cash (on a £15,000 listing) if I “needed to shift it quick.” Cheers, mate.  Scammers!!!  Oh my god.  They are everywhere.  Facebook really need to clamp down on this as its a real problem especially if you promote your listing.

4. Autotrader (Motorhomes & Campervans Section)

Pros:

  • Trusted UK brand

  • Dedicated motorhome section

  • Decent visibility

Cons:

  • Paid listings only

  • Not campervan-focused (more motorhomes)

  • Slightly clunky interface

This one came recommended by a mate, and while it did feel more “professional,” it didn’t yield much interest for me personally. Autotrader seems to lean more towards traditional motorhomes than custom camper builds.

5. Specialist Sites: Enter Campervan Bazaar

I founded Campervan Bazaar while searching for niche listing sites — and honestly, I wish I’d created it years ago. It’s designed specifically for UK campervan owners looking to buy and sell. No nonsense, no hidden fees, and best of all — it connects you directly with people who actually want a campervan.

What Makes Campervan Bazaar Different?

🎯 Focused Audience

The people browsing Campervan Bazaar aren’t looking for second-hand sofas or discount mobile phones. They’re searching for their next vanlife adventure. That focus alone cuts out 90% of the noise you get on general platforms.

Free Listings & Instant Approval

Unlike Autotrader or eBay, you don’t need to pay up front. There’s a free 7 day listing option on Campervan Bazaar.  Your ad goes live straight away — perfect if you’re in a hurry or just testing the waters.

🛡️ Verified Seller Profiles

This gives buyers and sellers confidence. When people see “Verified Seller,” they know you’re not messing around. It builds trust — which matters when you’re dealing with a big-ticket item like a campervan.

📸 Photo-First Design

The platform encourages you to upload multiple high-quality images, which makes a massive difference. People buy with their eyes — and when they see your van lit up against a Welsh coastline at sunset, they’re already halfway sold.

Top Tips for Selling Your Campervan Successfully

If you’re listing your campervan — whether on Campervan Bazaar or elsewhere — here are a few things I learned along the way:

1. Be Honest

List any faults upfront. Buyers will appreciate your transparency and are more likely to trust you.

2. Use Good Photos

Capture the van in natural light, ideally somewhere scenic. Include the outside, sleeping area, kitchen, storage, and any extras.

3. Write a Real Description

Talk about where the van has been, how often it’s used, and what makes it special. Buyers want stories, not just spec sheets.

4. Price Realistically

Check similar listings on Campervan Bazaar to get a sense of what vans like yours are going for. Don’t just guess — or copy eBay.

5. Respond Quickly

Engage with genuine interest ASAP. These buyers often look at several vans in one go, so being prompt can give you the edge.

Ready to Sell Your Campervan?

If you’re still not sure where to list your campervan, my honest advice is this:

👉 Try Campervan Bazaar first.

It’s campervan-specific, free to use, and backed by a growing UK community that actually cares about vans, not just flipping for profit. Whether you’re selling a vintage VW or a high-spec Sprinter conversion, you’ll be in good company.

Selling a campervan isn’t just about handing over a vehicle — it’s passing on years of adventure to someone else. And in my experience, Campervan Bazaar made that process simple, smooth, and surprisingly emotional.
